The Commit for Life program, available through the Houston-based Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center, is a great program. You sign up and commit to give 4 times a year or more, and presto you're doing a really good thing. Start at the GCRBC home page and then click Digital Donor, or go directly to the program home page.
Don't delay in signing up to donate something you make more of every day. There are some direct benefits to you, such as gathering points that let you get nifty stufy with the CFL logo, or finding out your cholesterol level for free. The main benefit, though, is knowing that you made good use of something that will be more or less wasted if you keep it but can work miracles if you give it away. That has to be the essence of cool.
