America Can Be Better

Saturday June 2, 2007

Here's a hint for all the politicians currently stewing over passage of the new "immigration reform" bill:

Our main concern is not that you have not passed enough laws.

Our main concern is not that you haven't reformed immigration.

Our main concern is not that you have not insured that companies have a guaranteed source of low-cost unskilled labor.

Can you guess what our main concern is?

Repeat the following words to your self in any order or combination, until an idea suddenly comes to mind: border, secure, law, existing, enforce, fund, agents, guards, equipment, surveillance, apprehension, deportation, employer, fine, prosecute.

If you say these words, or even just think them sort of like a mantra, eventually an idea will form.  This idea will be simple and clear.  When you form this idea, you should begin to say it aloud.  You should perhaps begin by saying it aloud but very softly, to yourself mostly.  Listen to it a few times, a few dozen times, a few hundred perhaps.

When you begin to hear the simple charm of this idea, try saying it to another politician, politely.  See if you can entice your friend (or enemy) to listen to the idea, to meditate on it with you.  If this proves difficult, supply your friend (or enemy) with the list and recommend the procedure you have performed.

With time, try saying the idea right out loud, just as though you actually believe it your self.  This process will liberate you and at the sime time bind you.

It will liberate you from the chains and dead weight of politically motivated thoughts that have stifled all your perceptive powers and reduced your thinking to calculations based on vote-getting.

It will bind you to a large percentage of the population of the country you are in office to serve.  It will bring you into oneness with those who put up with the awful burden of living within the law while still providing for their loved ones and even being generous enought to lend helping hands to neighbors and even strangers.  It will draw you into the bosom of a host of simple-minded folk who are desparate to find someone in charge who would dare to put the safety of these folk above other enticing considerations.

Keep saying the words.  Over and over and over.  Are any ideas forming?  Is the fog clearing?  When the ideas form and the fog clears, don't waste your precious time answering here.  Go immediately to your office.  Inform your staff.  Compose a letter to your constituents telling them of your newfound clarity.  Send it quickly.  Call your local radio and television stations.  Tell them you have a wonderful thing to tell them if they would like to interview you.

Let nothing stop you.  Imagine yourself protecting the residents of the United States of America, earning the respect of hundreds of millions, and all by returning to a simple idea and applying it without embarrassment.

Are you getting the idea yet?

We cannot wait to watch what happens when you do.
America Can Be Better gratefully flies the American flag
